Rediscovering the Artist Within
Finding My Way Back to Art
Lately, my sketchbook practice has shifted toward abstraction, and it feels like a natural evolution. Drawing was something I connected with deeply in high school—a skill and passion that came easily. But when my technology career took off in my 20s, it fell to the sidelines.
This past year, I’ve had the space to return to it, not as the person I was then, but as who I am now. It’s been a process of rediscovery, experimenting with materials, exploring new ways of working, and figuring out what resonates. Along the way, I’ve sought out teachers to bring structure and inspiration to this journey.
Through their online classes, artists Helen Wells and Orla Stevens introduced me to fresh approaches that helped expand my thinking about art and process. More recently, I’ve been attending in-person classes with Alexandra Rosenman at Studio 99 Artschool in my hometown. These sessions have brought me closer to a community of artists and added a tangible dimension to my practice.
Sharing here on Substack feels like the next step—an opportunity to reflect, share, and connect. Whether you’re an artist, exploring a creative path, or just curious about where this journey leads, I hope these posts resonate with you.
